Sorting out best motion and where to go next
Description
Okay, there potentially are multiple questions here which isn't considered ideal. (Also, just highlighting at the beginning that I may want to update six of these videos - as explained more fully in the last paragraph. This potentially requires more upload slots as deleting videos doesn't seem to consistently free them up, possibly always requiring intervention from staff, actually.) Anyway, I've uploaded 7 videos made using the magnet: tremolo using wrist motion (I think); tremolo using elbow motion; doing a simple chromatic exercise with fretting fingers 1, 2, 3 and 4 using wrist motion; same exercise using elbow motion; a thirds sequencing exercise using my "normal" default picking (with economy picking); a 1-2-3 sequencing exercise using my "normal" default picking; and a 1-2-3-4 sequencing exercise. The last three were from a previous instructor who gave me these and some other exercises to help speed up my picking; but some of these exercises were potentially like a "torture test". (The others were a sort of Scottish trad/ bluegrass sounding exercise; and a single string lick or short melody based on Miserlou as in Pulp Fiction. The last two haven't been incorporated into my regular practice so much.) However, feedback on these - and how bad string hopping etc is - would be useful. With the first four exercises, it seems like i can get more speed with purely elbow motion; but wrist-based motion may be more versatile? Also, I thought I had tonal/ "choking up" issues with the elbow motion for the chromatic 1-2-3-4 exercise on my usual guitar (a Godin xtSA) (maybe the "garage spikes" problem or another problem with my hand position or inadvertent damping). This is possibly not so much the case for this strat copy that I have available while I'm on holiday. After some previous uploads with different approaches to the recording and post-processing (in one case), I eventually settled on recording with OpenCamera with particular settings (and no post-processing) which gives the best results in terms of using all the fps my phone is capable of.Lesson Category
