Stuck at USX after finding DSX speed: 3 Questions on Path Forward
Description
Hi, I’ve been playing electric guitar for over four years, but I’ve always struggled with speed. No matter how hard I practiced, my ceiling seemed to be stuck around 100 BPM. Recently, I subscribed to your course, and the new insights have been incredibly helpful. I’ve finally discovered a method to alternate pick faster on a single string. Specifically, by following the path 'Picking Motion Tutorials' > 'Reverse Dart Wrist Motion' > 'From Tapping To Picking', I found a picking motion similar to DSX (Downstroke Escape), as shown in the video I uploaded. This is the first time in my guitar journey that I’ve actually been able to feel and see what my hand should be doing at high speeds. However, over the last two days, I’ve been trying hard to practice USX (Upstroke Escape), but my speed is very slow, and I just can’t find the right feeling. The same applies to the 'Forearm-Wrist Motion'; no matter how I attempt it, I can’t seem to play fast effortlessly. I’ve noticed in many videos that USX is described as having a wider range of application and being more adaptable to different musical phrases. Therefore, I have three main questions: Do I really need to master the USX technique thoroughly, or is it acceptable to adopt the DSX I’ve just learned as my primary foundation? Regarding DSX, how can I ensure smooth string crossing? Is this motion capable of handling the vast majority of musical phrases? Could you recommend a specific learning path for me to follow next so I can continue to deepen my practice effectively? Thank you!Lesson Category
