Making some progress with the speedy motions
Description
I think I've made a lot of progress since my last TC! Getting that JT wrist motion kinda started things off because it taught me what to listen for and what feeling to look for. I don't use it that much but it's handy for a pretty reliable short burst of tremolo that I can start right up. I filmed a new video of it because I think it's better now than when I first started it. I figured out that my forearm pretty naturally wants to go fast, so I started working on an EVH style tremolo motion. Within a week, with just a little bit of practice every day or so, I was able to develop it into a pretty usable motion on its own. It just doesn't blend that well with my regular riffing form. I wanted to get it closer to the strings and be able to mute like Nuno etc. So I've been working on just adapting the same twitchy feeling motion but moving it where I want it. It's a little harder to get it going at first, but I think it's coming along and improving every time I work on it. I'm not sure if it's Forearm-wrist now or some variation of RDT or something else? I think it's easiest to get it going if I'm resting my forearm firmly on the top of the guitar, but I did another clip where my arm was freer, mostly not touching the guitar. And then I lowered the guitar strap almost as far as it will go and did some with my arm even straighter. This is pretty much the form that I'd like to really master and would use the most, if it's in the cards for me. Also I can work on this for hours (not that I should!) but I've had some long sessions of messing around with it, and it's completely comfortable to do. No soreness or fatigue whatsoever no matter how long I'm working on it. I also did a clip with the pistol grip. I know my timing is off a bit...I thought I was doing 16ths like the others but I'm not even sure that it's not sextuplets. Is that one RDT? I can do this one better if I'm sitting down. And then I took a crack at the fast tapping motion also. I find it much easier to do with the return strokes included than it is with just the upstrokes tapping. I'm really intrigued by the idea of doing this (or anything) at 260 but I seem to max out on everything at about 215, including tapping tests. I've been messing around with the spacebar test periodically for the past year and I can never seem to do better than 75 taps in 10 seconds, and normally it's about 72 every time. I've tried relaxed twitching and I've tried hulking out, and all kinds of variations in between but nothing seems to change there. So.... just wondering where to go from here! Sorry to put so many different forms here, but I was really wondering if you see any kind of common element that I might be doing to make them all sort of work at this speed. These clips were all done at 210.Lesson Category
