First TC - Tremolo

Description

Hey there. I'm a professional Jazz player and a teacher (playing for 20 years), but always considered myself to be a slow player (no matter how hard I tried to tackle this problem). I would say that 130-140+- (16th notes) is pretty much my top usable speed. I've been following the CTC forum for the last 2-3 months, and about a month ago I also joined the MIM, went through the primer (fascinating work!). Basically in the last few weeks I've been trying to get a consistent, effortless, *fast* tremolo. I'm doing pretty decently at 140-150. 180-190 (depending on the day) is at the very edge of my abilities. And everything in between.. well, is somewhere in between. I have to mention that around 150-160+- I can do the tremolo for no more than 10-15 seconds. After reading on the forum that people can hold for much longer and at much faster (200+) tempos, I came to the conclusion that something is probably wrong with whatever it is that I'm doing. I also want to refer to the motion tests, where on the wrist/forearm tests my average speed is around 190 (Isn't 180-190 a bit slow for raw joint movement?) And that's really really pushing it, where my hand is already getting sore and tired after 1-2 bars. So it seems like there's a correlation between the motion tests and my actual playing, both in speed (my tremolo playing is a tad slower) and endurance. Actually I have many more questions, about my picking form, string switching etc. but maybe it would be better to focus on that area before anything else. Would really appreciate your input, and thank you for the wonderful work that you do! *Btw, on these videos I wasn't intentionally going for short bursts. I just stopped whenever things started to get sloppy or that my hand got tired (usually it goes together)
