I’m learning the intro to Cliffs of Dover following the tips laid out in the cascade seminar but keep hitting a speed limit around 95 bpm, 101 bpm on a really good day. I’m trying to get up to the speed on the record which I think is about 110.
Not sure if what the root cause is but every time I push past 95-100 my hand synchronization seems to fall apart. Any suggestions?
PS - wanted to share a fun follow up on my last TC. I learned that if you top wrap a Gibson bridge, it gets rid of the wrist extension problem :)

Would love to get some feedback. I’m running into two problems:
1. I’m starting to get pain in my elbow anytime I do a speed building practice session lasting longer than 15/20minutes. I think it’s because I tend to tighten my grip to keep the pick from flopping around, which creates tension up my forearm and elbow. Is there a good way to maintain a relaxed pick grip and still have control at higher speeds?
2. Im hitting a speed limit with EJ style pentatonic runs at about 95 bpm 16th note triplets. Looking at the tape, I think at some point during these runs I make a switch from the straight diagonal USX motion to something sloppier with more rotation in it. I think I’m capable of the USX motion on single strings (see the 6 NPS video… this looks and feels a bit cleaner to me) but something breaks down as I switch strings.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Just started the primer. I’m trying to diagnose what kind of picking mechanic I use for my primary motion - and understand what I can do to avoid getting stuck on certain types of phrases like the licks at the end of the video. If I had to guess, I think I’m using a USX motion and the reason I get stuck is because I start string hopping and awkwardly rotating my wrist when I play lines where the string change ends on a downstroke.
