Herring Cyclone Part 1
Description
Hey there! Okay, so I spent the last few weeks toiling away at what I have now dubbed "The Herring Cyclone" and I am having a lot of fun with it, but definitely noticed a tempo limit. No surprise; you mentioned that in our MX TC previous to this one. I slaved away at "Andy's Rootsy Fusion" and while it needs some refinement still, I can play it in it's entirety. some sections up to 140bpm, and others about 123bpm. Still needs work; I included a chunk of it here along with a few other things that maybe present some interesting symptoms; I notice that pretty consistently in all of the various videos, the downstroke seems to really go quite a ways further than the downstroke. This is a habit I seem to have with my regular DSX stuff also, and I wonder if the opposing upstroke then has to kind of compensate? I did notice that my repeating notes and chromatic 4's, tremolos on a single string felt really umm lopsided and kind of bottomed out tempo-wise at about 132bpm. I wonder, wonder, wonder if it would be positive to my playing to try to restrain that downstroke? And in general, do you have any ideas on optimizing this motion? I have moments where it seems to REALLY work out well, you know - kind of a pleasant surprise when it's pretty clean and a little quicker than it once was? I do notice that as I try to get quicker - swiping comes into play! The Pentatonic 5's is a good example of this - I am thinking that "overshooting Downstroke" and then the resulting compensations make the swipe the only way I can get the stroke to finish - basically blasting through the string brute forcing this! And on the topic of force; do you think I should perhaps practice hitting much more softly? It seems a bit... ummm aggressive! lol Looking forward to the team's thoughts and advice. I'll try and get a full playthrough of the Andy lick up this week as well! Thanks!Lesson Category
