Picking Grip Confusion

Hi, Lately this whole focus on picking grip has gotten me really mixed up. Everywhere online, people talk about closing your hand so there’s little to no space between your thumb and index finger. But when I try that, it feels totally wrong. I actually prefer having them spaced out. Same thing with tremolo picking—most players online say not to rest your thumb on the guitar body, but I naturally do that and it feels more stable. Here are both techniques I’ve been using, in tremolo and in down-picking. Can anyone set me straight on whether these habits are really “wrong,” or if it’s just personal preference? Thanks!
