whiskey 132 bpm
The "unintended" outside picking already doesn't happen anymore. Whiskey for breakfast can still kinda be played but the helper motions are super conscious and I feel like I have to limit my range of motion and loudness, otherwise I will blast through the wrong strings. I could do it all day but it feels tense and super concentrated.

120 bpm whiskey
Here I already lose the sensation of "not doing anything, just doing back and forth picking". I actively do help motions to escape on upstrokes, and this is manageable at this tempo

120 bpm inside & outside & d-g-b-g pattern
Here I try to do outside picking at 120 bpm, which feels as if it takes 0 effort. Inside picking, which takes effort (you see my hand is very busy) but is managable at this tempo a pattern (d-g-b-g-d-g-b-d, etc) that sounds and looks bad

Old DSX motion
My old DSX motion in which I: 1: Show my pronated setup single string 2: Switching strings after a downstroke = easy 3: Rotation so I can also land on a new string after an upstroke (timing becomes an issue) 4: the disaster when I try to play 2nps starting on a downstroke.

DBX
a video with unintended outside picking Sorry for the vertical shot. When flipping it in quicktime, I'm afraid quality drops.

3 finger grip supinated example
I tried to play something with my 3 finger grip on the D and G, and then in B and E. I like doing this sort “cross picking roll light” exercise, where I do GDD GDD (DUD UDU). Picking single notes feels extremely different than this “cross picking” thing, and also bluegrass lines. It feels like playing bluegrass lines and cross picking require more movement in my hand. But I can do it fast (132 bpm). A 2nd thing I tried was trying to have my pick be more “vertical”. I think I could still do better in that sense.

molly attempt
1. Molly’s technique: So I should tilt my arm so it’s less flat? And should I compensate for my pick becoming slanted upward, my changing my grip a little bit? So that it becomes vertical? I saw this in one of your Molly Tuttle video’s. I gave it a shot, it’s difficult to remain tilted. I also still think I can’t escape on upstrokes. Highly questioning if I’m just doing a RDT motion that is simply not working with a pronated set up.

Stuart Ryan Bluegrass in supinated position
escaping on downstrokes and upstrokes = possible, but range of motion is becoming a bit limited
