Different anchoring position
Seems I’m using legato and a buried upstroke to get through descending string changes and forearm rotation for ascending. Which technically works, but I think this pick stroke looks pretty buried.

Seated position, trying to anchor my arm as if standing
Cold or allergies kicking in strong here so also a fair amount of trying not to sneeze - sorry! This position feels “weaker” than standing for lack of a better word and slowed down I think I see some legato in there descending…

Sort of messy DSX
For lack of a better word. Went back to my usual standing posture rather than sitting to rule out any variables the change in position might introduce and as it happens I anchor differently; seated I gravitate to the back of my hand on the bridge, standing things feel like they flow better with the ball of my hand below my thumb anchoring on the body, which certainly changes the pick stroke orientation. Gilbert 6s motif in Cmaj/Amin but for whatyever reason I start off trem picking a B so we're going modal, I guess.

3NPS pattern - improved string tracking
Back to the original pattern because it sequences better and falls a little easier under my fretting hand. Still needs some polish but this is significantly smoother.

Wrist deviation string tracking
Trying to keep my forearm planted while string skipping. This initially felt extremely awkward but is getting more comfortable.

more simplifying - legato on low and high strings, no skip with parallel and non parallel pattern
Legato is still faster descending than ascending, though with more tension in my arm on the low strings. Keeping the locked notes parallel with 9th fret for both is perceptibly tighter than 9th fret than reaching back to the 8th, even on adjacent strings.

More testing - single direction 3NPS with and without string changes
In response to a forum question on simplifying the motif.

String skipping DSX 3NPS test pattern
Trying to smooth out my string changes - Tommo suggested also posting this here. This was the starting point video, shortly after coming up with this exercise:
