Description
Take a journey into the world of country and bluegrass flatpick virtuosity in this Masters in Mechanics double feature.
Nashville studio ace and flatpicking champion Carl Miner tackles scalar and arpeggiated phrases with startling ease in this revealing two-part discussion of his flawless crosspicking fluidity.
Carl Miner 2007
The first interview was conducted at the 2007 National Guitar Flat Pick Championship in Winfield, Kansas, and also includes three hours of the competition itself: over 30 first-round contestants, four second-round finalists, and three winners.
Carl Miner 2015
We did the second interview in 2015 shortly after Carl completed his 100th recording session of the year. We came armed with specific questions about Carl’s unique crosspicking movement, and thanks to his quick mind for mechanical concepts, had one of the most specific and revealing 1.5-hour technical conversations with a player we’ve ever done.
The downloads also include 47 slow-motion clips with tablature. It’s a fascinating snapshot of a musical culture where creativity, mechanical standardization, and technical competition all conspire to produce amazing players and performances.
